Welcome Amber Davis, New FLOW Program Manager
By Thomas Anderson

FLOW Fridays have been suspended until further notice so as to avoid any of our volunteers possibly being exposed to COVID-19. Please check our website, https://amigosdebolsachica.org/news.php, for updates. We will send emails once a timeline is issued for reopening of the visitor center and when FLOW Fridays are deemed safe.

At the beginning of 2020, Amber Davis joined the Amigos de Bolsa Chica as the new FLOW Program Manager, replacing Jill Lemon. Amber began working with Jill last summer as a FLOW intern and assisted in creating K-5 curriculum for FLOW. The new curriculum was part of the project funded by California State Parks Foundation. It was put to test when 180 students from Golden View Elementary school visited FLOW last fall.

Amber graduated from Cal State Long Beach at the end of 2019 with a degree in Marine Biology. She is already getting her feet wet, so to speak, collecting and analyzing water samples every Friday as well as organizing FLOW field trips for students. She loves working with volunteers and understands the importance of preserving our threatened coastal ecosystems. If you have not been to a FLOW Friday lately, please come down to Bolsa Chica State Beach and join in the phytoplankton fun and meet Amber. If you are interested in marine sciences and would like to help monitor Bolsa Chica’s water conditions and productivity then sign up for FLOW today. No prior skills, other than enthusiasm, are necessary. Training is ongoing. Contact Amber at flow@amigosdebolsachica.org.
